June 2009

Day three started off under sunny skies and everyone was excited to hit the wicked trails of Cumberland. Jeremy Gratsby of the Riding Fools Hostel always provides an incredible day 3 and he did not disappoint!!!

The race started off fast and furious before the tight trails began. Bear Bait was a trail everyone loved and rightfully so. The moto team got to slay the trails too as safety but what a wicked time we had.

Bear Bait was followed by a big climb up to Forbidden Plateau and aid station 1 where people were more than happy to refuel. After that the trails were incredible. Tight technical trails descending all the way down to the lake!!! Oh Yeah!!!

The smiles of all the racers were huge when they crossed the finish line and what an awesome day. Now many of them are sitting back with beers and basking in the long days of summer on Vancouver Island before heading off to various local restaurants for wicked food.

Thanks to all for the kind comments on the videos. They are short so we can upload them fast but I still find myself as ‘Moto Dave’ for about 5-8 hours a day on course then have to refuel, download footage, edit it up and save it and then download it which puts me usually at midnight with a few beers along the way. As you can imagine it is pretty full on so I appreciate the kind comments and am happy to be out there and letting everyone know whats going on….once again here the vid! Later Skater…

Well the second day of the BC Bike Race is done and what an epic day. Today racers were treated to a sweet ride on the Brand New BC Ferry-Renaissance. This is an amazing ship and takes hundreds of thousands of visitor and BC residents throughout Vancouver Island and surrounding Islands yearly.

The race began right from the terminal with a 14 km road section before racers were treated to the wicked trails of the Abyss. This awesome area is littered with sweet single track. Today I along with Bruce Spicer, Steve Mitchell, Chris Cooney and Jeff Green served as the moto team making sure every racer gets taken care of from start to finish. It is an awesome job as we watch all the racers achieve their goals of the day and help the ones that run into trouble.

The course that Norm Thibault and Sean Lunny designed was spectacular and everyone enjoyed it. However, many were done by the end of the stage, but the view sitting on the Parksville water front brought them around though. Incredible!!

Many competitors are remarking about how well the race has been run and we are all quick to remind them that they make the race and all the highs and lows that go with it. We try to provide the ultimate single track experience and I think they are getting it. Tomorrow we will arrive in Cumberland for another amazing day designed by Jeremy Grastsby who always designs an epic course

Until then, enjoy the highlights of today! See ya tomorrow, litte D

Well after last nights late rain that worried everyone, we awoke to beautiful sunny skies and a wicked day to start the 2009 edition of the BC Bike Race!

Competitors we eager to get the journey under way, and so they did at 10:00 am sharp. The 400 racers hammered up Berkley Ave in North Vancouver and into the famous North Shore Mountains. Worried racers who were concerned about the gnarly trails were surprised at how fun they were if you concentrated and took it at your level of speed. More than once I heard the word “AWESOME” coming out of racers mouths.

The sun was out all day and all racers made it to the finish except for one unlucky women rider who took a trip to the hospital thanks to Severed Trail. We hope she is doing well and can continue with the journey. If she is anything like the other awesome women in this years race, she will be there with a big smile!

All the racers are now fed thanks to Taylors Crossing who catered an awesome meal tonight right on the field in the middle of Lynn Valley. Yes for the first time ever the race is camped out at the base of Mount Fromme amongst a very proud neighbourhood!

And a big shout out to Darren and Kelli at Endless Biking who designed and created a wicked first day of the 2009 BC Bike Race.!!!

Here’s the vid, enjoy! Little D

I have been proud to work with the Injury Prevention Center since 1993 doing presentations in schools throughout BC, teaching kids to get outside and push their limits but also turning the risks they take everyday into calculated risks, thus staying injury free!

Mary-Ellen Lower has been my guiding light ever since the beginning and has allowed me to spread my wings and develop new programs within the guidelines to suit my specific style. Diane Mazzei at the center has also been a tremendous help to me by booking me into a number of presentations each year and keeping all things in oder.

The BC Injury Prevention Center reaches a large number of kids and young adults each year through their amazing speakers that go into school and share their passions, through their amazing web site which sees a huge amount of hits from all over the world and their cool commercials. Years ago we made a cool commercial off my Iditasport Impossible 1800km journey and now here is the latest one featuring me the Injury Free Karma Man! www.injuryfreezone.com

A Big THANK YOU goes out to the Injury Prevention Center and all of my amazing sponsors that allow me to get out there each and every day and spread the vibe of getting outside and being active to everyone, young and old!

Learning to Kite Surf

June 19, 2009

One of my favorite sports that I have ever learned is Kite Surfing. Why you ask? Well it is the water, the sun and just the feeling of the wind pulling you across the water. The truth is everyone has their own reasons for starting this wicked sport but one thing is for sure, most [...]
