It’s hot! Dam Hot! Don’t get me wrong I love the heat and all things that go with it but right now in BC it is wicked hot. Today on my ride up Fromme my feet were burning in my shoes and no amount of water would cool me off.

Just the other day I was searching for a photo and stumbled across these two shots that took me out of the heat and into the coldness of winter for just a moment. I thought I would share these with you so you too can feel the coldness of winter on you for just a moment. Ahhhh feels good doesn’t it! And now for the bonus round, here’s the video!

This weekend Kim and I joined a couple of friends at the Washougal Race Track in Southern Washington for the AMA/WMA Motorcross Event. This event has the best riders in the world going head to head for the 250 and 450 titles.

There were 20,000 screaming fans, an amazing outdoor track and the hot sun was out in full force.
It is amazing to watch the start of these events with the 40 best riders in the world going toe to toe in the first corner. They do not shut off the throttle in the corners and it is a real treat to watch these riders and how fast they actually go. Very inspiring.

Chad Reed took home both motos which was awesome especially after getting caught up in a crash at the start of moto 2 and coming back to make the final pass with 1 lap to go for the win of moto 2 and the overall.

It was also cool to walk the pits with Kim and see all the awesome rigs and pro riders doing their thing before the events. Love it!!!

Today I hit the gym for the first time in a very long time. You see I never really have done weights even during my full time racing. I always thought it was better to spend time doing the sports I raced at and since I did and do so many sports, weights were just not necessary.

Kim has been working out like crazy since her ACL surgery and Dr. McConkey has remarked how amazing her recovery has been and one of those reasons has been because of the Power Plate. What the heck is a Power Plate?
Well it is a small machine that you stand on and workout on and it vibrates at over 2000 times per minute. It also moves on 3 axis’s and creates an amazing workout in only 15 minutes.

Today was my first time and I was blown away at this machine. It is simple to use and Lily our trainer put us through some simple exercises and as we moved through them I noticed better balance, strength and stamina. Then before I knew it the workout was over. All together it was only about 25 minutes and I was like, “hey that is not enough”! However as we walked out I noticed that I flet like I had worked out very hard for an hour and a half. Because the machine is vibrating it is like your muscles are contracting hard for the entire workout therefore giving you a pretty amazing workout.

You gotta try this machine. Not many around but visit Powervibe Fitness and your first session is free. They also have an infrared sauna and your first time in that is free as well. Very Cool!

Last weekend started out pretty awesome with the weather and I spent the day MCing the North Shore Knee Knacker Trail Run, which is a 30 mile ultra trail run from Horseshoe Bay to Deep Cove over the Baden Powell Trail. I placed third twice before in this epic race in 92′ & 93′ and was honored that they asked me to MC the event. It was a super nice day and here I am with the top three. To my right is Aaron Height who set a new course record at 4:39:52 and on my left is my good friend Peter Finley who owned the record and has won the race the most. He is also over 50 and rocks!

It was then off to Vancouver Island to take part in the Rock City Rumble, also know as Norm and Carey’s Birthday party where we played 8 hours of epic paintball in Justin Mark’s parents 18 acre backyard. It was a full on day with tons of awesome athletes running through the bush shooting the crap out of each other. More than a few times I had to scream mercy in a hail of bullets. Awesome!

After an awesome day, I made my way to Nitinaht Lake where the wind was cranking. I have started to backroll and jump so I am pretty stoked! Kim joined me a few days later and, for those of you who did not know, she had ACL surgery just 2 and half months ago. With her amazing recovery her surgeon, the legend Dr. McConkey, said she could kite surf with a surf board without straps. I was so amazed as I launched her and she tore up the lake on her surf board!!! She is awesome. Summer keeps on getting better and I hope it is for you too!

I have been with Marin Bikes for two years now and I have been very fortunate to do some very cool stuff with them. Many believe that being associated with a company through sponsorship is just about getting bikes. Nothing could be further from the truth and Marin has allowed me to get out and experience new horizons that I have only dreamed about. Marin also does lots of amazingly cool things. This is just one of them and when I found out about this from Carol Carlson who along with Andy Leeka made this happen, I just had to send it out!
Awesome work Marin! Makes me so proud to be associated with a company that really is changing the world! dave
