New Line….

by admin

OMG! The past week I have been riding with the Traslin’s and Wade and finding all sorts of epic xc loops that do not get ridden very often. The reason? Well the climb up is long, arduous, and sometimes involves hours of crawling and pushing. But it is all worth it!!!!

Check it!

Our dear friends have the most spectacular place up the sunshine coast. Kim and I are lucky enough to get to go up whenever we want and so this past week we ventured up to take some time out of life and recharge our batteries….

The best part was on the way up Greg let me fly the helicopter. Now I LOVE helicopters so this was a dream come true! However it was also very scary and I actually flew it with no help for some time, until I just could not handle the pressure anymore. These things are hard to fly to say the least and I could hear Kim behind me actually scared for her life….we all arrived safe and sound though..

The next few days we Aquaskippered, swam, hot tubbed, and headed out to the ocean to set the prawn traps where we hauled in many tasty prawns for a fantastic garlic prawn pasta! MMMmmmm!

The best part of this place is that it is so quiet and you just spend the day with your friends over fine wine, beer and great food! I absolutely love it!!!

Below are vids of me flying the Heli and of me Aquaskippering. Enjoy!

I love my backyard and this morning I met up with my good friend Mike Traslin for a sweet alpine ride on the North Shore Mountains. We began in Lynn Valley and climbed 4000-ft up to the Peak of Grouse Mountain before dropping into Jet Boy for a rad descent complete with the left overs of a jet engine that was lodged in the mountains below Grouse from a terrible jet crash back in the day.

Summer is still here so get out and enjoy…

Hiking 101

Living in Vancouver and on the North Shore means we are just minutes from real wilderness. This makes it ideal for Mountain Biking, Trail Running and Hiking. I recently did a spot on Breakfast Television on Hiking and where to go and what to wear and carry.

Going Racing!!

by admin

Yes it is true although I am not trying to make a comeback, I am going racing again! Just this past week Dean Payne President of the BC Bike Race invited me to race as a team of two with him at Crank the Shield 3-Day Stage Mountain Bike Race in Ontario.

P1014417

The cool 250km stage race traverses some of the wildest terrain across the Canadian Shield. How could I say no. So in a few weeks we leave for Ontario and in the mean time I have been putting in some serious double ups on Seymour and Fromme to get myself race ready.

I will be of course using my awesome XC Marin Mt. Vision Pro bike which is so light and nimble and just feels so good. Well gotta go riding but here’s a little taste of my training regime! Enjoy!

Well this weekend was Crankworkx in Whistler and I was there in full force helping out Shimano and Marin showcasing their latest and greatest product. CrankWorkx is probably the biggest freeride mountain bike event on the planet and it attracts people from all over the globe!

IMG_8760

Thursday despite the rain we were very busy and I spent the whole day talking to people about bikes, components and the awesome trails we have in Whistler. Friday the sun came out and a lot more people and by Saturday it was a full on Gong Show. The racing and parties that followed we wicked!

I was pumped to see the new Marin Attack Trail 6 & 6 inch suspension bike and I can’t wait to get my hands on it for some testing. Look for that soon!

IMG_8779

One of the coolest things at the show was in our Shimano booth when Larry Zimich showed up with the new Dura-Ace Electronic Shifting. This is an amazing product which is going to revolutionize how we all shift bikes in the future.

IMG_8777

The system is only $1000.00 more than the regular Dura-Ace and you no longer have to think about moving levers or if you moved them too much or not enough. The electronic system does everything for you and it does it precisely every time. You can also run all gears, even your big ring and big cog which is normally a big no no on regular shifting. I was also surprised at how long the battery lasts, as it will go 2000 km or 800 hours before it needs a charge, which takes only 45 minutes!

IMG_8776

But the coolest part of the system is that in the event of a big crash the system recognizes that it is in a crash and the internals separate from the mechanism to eliminate damage and the rear derailleur moves all the way in to protect itself. Incredible!

We capped the weekend off with a big Shimano Party at the GLC as we watched the Slope Style Comp where Greg Watts won! Awesome!

Well my little sister is back competing after a few years off to give birth to their two awesome children, Bromley and Teagan. And what a way to come back this year racing on the Nathan Canada Running Team and this weekend placing 2nd Overall and 1st in the 35-39 age group and qualifying for the World Duathlon Championships in Scotland next year.

Congrats to my little sister! Check it all out here on the Nathan Canada Blog.

Buying a Mountain Bike

August 7, 2009

Well I have been racing and riding mountain bikes for 20 years and in that time I have learned a few things. The most important thing I have learned is that having a mountain bike and getting out of the city is one of the best things you can do for your health.
Over the last [...]
