Sled Season!!!

Dave Brohm 2009

Since I started snowmobiling it is hard not to go totally bonkers when I see the snow season arriving. I mean I love summer, dirt biking, mountain biking and kite surfing are off the hook, however there is nothing that gets my juices flowing more than thinking about carving up some meadow with light fluffy powder billowing up over the hood of my Ski-Doo Rev XP!

I just spent today out at Great Vancouver Power Sports looking over all the new gear and grabbing a few essentials for the winter. The boyz at GVPS are top notch in sales and helping you dial in your machine so it performs better and is more reliable when your out there. If your looking for a new or used sled then give them a shout and talk to Mike in Sales. or if you have any questions e-mail me at dave@davenorona.com

Lat year I picked up a new REV XP 146 and man these new sleds really make a huge difference to the fun factor and especially when doubling to get to the awesome ski terrain. I do about 110-120 days per winter sledding, sled/skiing and touring off the machine and every day last year was incredible. For the few friends I took out skiing they were all blown away at the terrain and how few people are out there, which means more POWDER!!!

Here is all the things I do to my sled before it hits the snow…

If your looking for a new sled for carving powder or to get to the ski goods then look no further than a Ski-Doo Rev XP. These machines are the lightest and have the best power to weight ratio of all the manufactures out there. I also can not believe how fuel efficient these new sleds are which mean more ROOP TIME, more POWDER TIME and MORE FUN!

If you are into skiing or snowboarding then don’t forget to pick up one of these sweet Racks from Cheetah Factory Racing. These are made by Dave Basterrechea in Pemberton, BC and they are designed to make your time out in the mountains more productive. These racks are bombproof and easily handle all your equipment. Last year I picked up his new Dime Bag which attaches perfectly to my rack and allows me to store extra gloves, first aid kit and food or whatever else I need that day. Dave also has an amazing website, so check it out.

Yes winter is almost here and even though we have about a month of wet snotty weather ahead, I like to be organized and get all my ducks in a row for when the snow flies!

For me that means choosing the right winter gear for the 80 plus ski days into the backcountry I make. I look for gear that is light, fun and efficient but most importantly is dialled for the downhill powder turns I love. There is lots of super lightweight gear out there these days but I want gear that skis like full on alpine equipment because for me it is all about the sweet turns.

IMG_9547

For skis this year I choose a pair of Genuine Guide Gear Zest skis. Yes these are women’s skis but after testing these amazing rides last year I just couldn’t turn down a chance to use them this year. They are light, fat and float through the powder. These skis also have the new early rise tip which allows the ski to turn on a dime. G3 has been turning out boards for several years now and I have ridden many different models of their skis and they all feel amazing! Keep up-to-date on all things G3 here.

IMG_9550

For me and most skiers, boots are the most important. They put your every input into the ski so if they don’t transfer that then they just won’t do. For years I was reluctant to use an Alpine Touring boot because I felt they just did not give you the control a DH boot did. That all changed when I tried the Garmont Radium boot last year. This boot is ultra light, has four buckles and a mouldable liner and most importantly skis like a regular ski boot. Because the Radium is so light it allows me to tour faster and more efficiently so I can get to more powder faster. Boots are all about the fit so try them all on but especially look at the Garmont line as there is something in there for everyone.

IMG_9548

The other cool thing Alpine Touring boots allowed me to do is go to G3’s new Onyx binding. This new binding is G3’s first step into the Alpine Touring binding market and man is it awesome. Lightweight, strong and it skis just like and alpine binding. I love the way it tours and I have dropped a whack of weight between boots and bindings which makes my day out there that much better! Check’em out here…

Now that I have my equipment all dialled it is time to get them ready for snow and the way I do that is to take them down to Dave at Crystal Glide. Dave has been dialling race skis for years and he always makes my boards awesome. Whether your a ripper or a brand new skier having your skis stone ground and edges done will make your day out on the slopes even more special.

Here is some stoke to get you ready for winter!

Stay Strong!

IMG_9717

It was about a year ago when I watched in horror on TV when Professional BMX rider Stephen Murray Crashed hard at a competition. Now we all know that today and for all time athletes have pushed the envelope. Well Stephen Murray is one of those athletes. He had thrown down more double back flips and every time I saw it I was blown away. I love people who push the limits.

Unfortunately in 2007 in that crash Stephen Murray broke his neck and was paralized. Below is his ride back to an amazing recovery. I always say life for most of us here is easy. Yet we hear people complaining all the time!? What’s up! Then a person like Stephen Murray steps up and does what he is doing. Take it as inspiration cause I sure do. You can also visit Stephen’s blog and check out some of his clothing and buy something cool.

Here is a video that shows what an amazing rider Stephen is….

Harbour Air!

by admin

Harbour Air is the largest Seaplane company in the world and it lives in our own backyard. What does this do for us you ask?

Well it allows us to sneak off to Vancouver Island and back in just a day and have one wild adventure. I have been using Harbour Air for many of my team building adventures and it is always a wicked time.

This weekend I had a speaking engagement in Victoria at the Royal Victoria Marathon Expo on behalf of PowerPar. We made our way over and had a sweet adventure. Check it out….

Great Story!

by admin

IMG_0186

A good friend of mine sent this to me the other day with a very nice comment. He said this story below reminded him of me. There are many ways to live but this is a good reminder to follow your passion no matter what people think! Thanks for this Ryan.

Enjoy!
An American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked.  Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna.  The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.
The Mexican replied, “only a little while.”

The American then asked why didn’t he stay out longer and catch more fish?
The Mexican said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs.
The American then asked, “but what do you do with the rest of your time?”
The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siestas with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine, and play guitar with my amigos.  I have a full and busy life.”

The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you.  You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat.  With the proceeds from the bigger boat, you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats.  Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery.  You would control the product, processing, and distribution.  You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually New York City, where you will run your expanding enterprise.”

The Mexican fisherman asked, “But, how long will this all take?”
To which the American replied, “15 – 20 years.”
“But what then?” Asked the Mexican.
The American laughed and said, “That’s the best part.  When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions!”
“Millions – then what?”
The American said, “Then you would retire.  Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siestas with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.”

The moral of the story… Know where you’re going in life — you may already be there.

You are what you eat and if you are not eating organic meats, veggies and everything else then you need to wake up and think about who and what is producing the food you eat!

Check out this amazing film called FOOD INC. and tell me it does not set off alarm bells as to what you may be buying. Like the movie says you have the power to change the way things are produced every time you eat!

Electric Ripper!

by admin

IMG_0164

We the fall air has arrived but what amazing weather we have had! This Thanks Giving Weekend we made our way to Onion Lake to meet up with friends and dirt bike ride.

IMG_0194

IMG_0198

It was so beautiful, but it was very cold. Minus 15 at night. The only way to combat the cold was to dress warm and have a huge fire. Oh Yeah!

IMG_0187

I got out for two huge rides with friends and even managed to take a rip and get some cool footage on the Zero Electric Motorcycle. It was Kim’s first weekend back dirt biking since her ACL surgery 4 months ago and so I thought it fitting to send her off on the electric dirt bike which has tons of power but is lighter and easier to manoeuvre through the tight trails. She did awesome!

I hope your weekend was a blast no matter where you spent it!
